Girl Scout Thinking Day is an annual event celebrated by Girl Scouts around the world.
It typically takes place on February 22nd, the birthday of both Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scout movement, and his wife Olave Baden-Powell, who served as the World Chief Guide.

During Thinking Day, Girl Scouts reflect on the global sisterhood of scouting and guiding, learning about different cultures, traditions, and issues facing girls and women worldwide.
They often engage in activities such as crafts, games, songs, and presentations that focus on international understanding and friendship.
This day provides an opportunity for girls to connect with their peers from diverse backgrounds and to develop empathy, respect, and appreciation for other cultures.
Through these experiences, girls gain a broader perspective on the world and are inspired to take action to make it a better place.

Each scouts bring lots of pennies/nickels/quarters to buy food samples and swaps!!!
Money collected will be split between the Juliette Gordon Lowe World Friendship Fund and SHARE – to help benefit girls in our area!
Scouts should bring a small reusable bag or container, coin purse or the like to hold their pennies and nickels as well as the swaps they collect

This is volunteer hours for older girls who attend to help set up and clean up.
These will be counted as Service Unit/Troop hours you need for your Silver Trefoil Award.

  • TABLE: Prepare a poster board and tabletop display to provide a basic introduction to your country. (Your tabletop display can include crafts, toys, simple musical instruments, etc. It can be as simple or as complex as your girls’ would like, but do not feel you have to do everything!) Congressional will have tables for us to use.
  • STAMP: Bring a stamp and ink pad or use stickers to put on passports of your country’s visitors.
  • FOOD: Bring small samples of native food or drink to sell to about 150-200. It should just be a bite of the food. Remember that the girls will be visiting many countries, so please try to keep the price for these samples under 50 cents if possible.
  • SWAPS: Make enough country-related swaps to cover the anticipated 200 visitors to your station. (Food and SWAPS can be sold for .05 - $1.00)
  • Bring a cash box for your table and some change to start.
  • Have girls bring a bag to put swaps and money in.
  • Bring a flag of your country for the Parade of Nations flag ceremony. (flag may be homemade or purchased/borrowed)
  • PASSPORT: Have the girls prepare their own passports. As they visit each country's table, they’ll get a stamp or sticker from that country. These passports can be made any way that you like. Be creative!
  • MONEY: Remind girls to bring lots of dimes/nickels/quarters to buy food samples and swaps!!! Money collected will be donated to SHARE – to help benefit girls in our area and around the world! Girls should bring a small reusable bag or container, coin purse or the like to hold their change as well as the swaps they collect. At the end of the evening, money collected by each troop will be brought to the SU Money Manager.
  • Optional: Consider learning a native greeting to teach visitors or include a country map on your display to show where the country is located. Wear an article of native clothing or decorate a T-shirt to represent your country.

Use plain paper products or compostable plates/napkins instead of Styrofoam or coated paper plates. Cover your table with a fabric tablecloth instead of a paper one.

Do what you can from this checklist, but the most important thing is to come!
